What determines the lifespan of Floor Scrubber Squeegees?
The role of Floor Scrubber Squeegees is to ensure a proper seal between the Floor Scrubber Squeegee assembly and the floor surface. Continuous friction makes them one of the most vulnerable parts of a floor scrubber. So, what are the factors that generally influence the lifespan of Floor Scrubber Squeegees?
- Floor Material: The material of the workplace floor directly impacts the squeegee blade’s lifespan. For instance, smooth surfaces like tiles and floor coatings tend to slow down squeegee blade wear, whereas rough cement floors noticeably accelerate wear. Likewise, the cleanliness of the working surface also affects the squeegee blade’s lifespan. Floors with a lot of metal debris, for example, can impact the blade’s longevity.
- Working Environment: There are two types of squeegee blades, those resistant to oil and those not. In oily environments, it’s advisable to choose oil-resistant squeegee blades. However, oil-resistant blades are generally harder and can withstand the corrosion from chemicals like oil, but they may have poorer wear resistance compared to regular blades.
- Frequency of Use: The more frequently the squeegee blades are used, the longer their working hours, and thus, their lifespan becomes shorter.
- Blade Height: The appropriate pressure and blade height between the blade and the floor surface also affect the squeegee blade’s lifespan. However, if the pressure is too low, it may not effectively remove all the liquid. Therefore, adjusting to the right pressure and height according to the working environment is crucial.
- Blade Material: The quality and material of the blade also play a significant role in its lifespan. Inferior squeegee blades made from regular rubber tend to be harder, leading to incomplete liquid recovery and faster wear. - Routine Maintenance: Regular maintenance of squeegee blades involves cleaning them with water, especially ensuring that any grooves and crevices are thoroughly cleaned. Periodic checks should be made to ensure the squeegee blades are intact without any gaps or cracks. After cleaning, the blades can be air-dried before reinstalling and using them.
